Red Wing is doing something new. And the 4402 is a part of it. The company is taking a new approach to designing a specific line of boots built to surround the foot with durability, comfort, stability, and protection. Enter the King Toe ADC. ADC stands for All Day Comfort, and it is the next generation of Red Wing’s successful King Toe series._ OK, let’s start with the leather and King Toe tech inside. The King Toe ADC 4402 sports a rich brown, full grain leather—the best part of the hide—and has a lining that promotes air circulation and moisture movement. That translates to your feet staying dry and reduce odor. Red Wing incorporates its King Toe technology, which though you can see it visually, affords your foot valuable space through 44% more toe room. The rubber toe bumper adds extra protection where a leather toe would sustain damage and wear out, and this rubber extends up the ankle (good if you kick your boots off so leather won’t wear out there either). Interestingly enough, Red Wing has put a new kind of safety toe cap into the 4402 King Toe ADC and the rest of the ADC series: the nano composite toe cap. The nano composite toe cap protects toes with less weight and bulk - Red Wing even tells us it is stronger than steel. It is an extremely thin and lightweight and asymmetrical toe cap to match the unique shape of left and right foots. This frees up more space for toes. And when paired with the 44% more toe room promised by the King Toe, these boots give you ideal toe freedom. We can go on and on about this shoe, but the 4402 King Toe ADC does share a lot of features as other boots we carry—electrical hazard rated, waterproof, etc—but there are two crucial details we want to point out and those are in the footbed and sole. The footbed is a four-layer system that includes a gel pad, molded arch, polyurethane base, and slow recovery memory foam; this means your foot stays comfortable as a result of a enhanced heel strike and material durability. Lastly (we promise), Red Wing has developed the Trilux three-layer sole platform. This has a polyurethane midsole, triarch support, and a rubber lugged outsole; combined, the sole provides underfoot comfort, durability and chemical resistance along with non-loading oil, slip, and heat resistance. And of course, it is molded to increase comfort and stability—but you already knew we would say that, didn’t you?
